Skycademy is a FREE two-and-a-half day Continuing Professional Development (CPD) event aiming to provide experience of high altitude ballooning to educators, and demonstrate how it can be used as an engaging teaching tool.
There are lots of opportunities for learning that a high altitude balloon flight presents, incorporating physics, maths, computing and geography into one project.
This is “Skycademy” by Raspberry Pi Foundation on Vimeo, the home for high quality videos and the people who love them.
You can read more about last year’s event and the ongoing programme here.
One of the hardest parts of running a flight is the number of different aspects you have to plan and manage. You can test the hardware and software to a certain point, but there’s limited opportunity for a practice flight. Having experience is really helpful.
This is where Skycademy comes in, attendees will be guided through the steps involved in running a launch and weather permitting get a hands-on experience of a flight. The event will be free to attend and will be spread over two and a half days between the 8th and 10th of August 2016. Whilst the course will be based in Cambridge, launch day will require you to travel in order to launch & recover your payload
- Day 1 – Planning and workshop sessions on all aspects of HAB flights.
- Day 2 – Each team launches their payload, tracks, follows and recovers it.
- Day 3 – Teams gather together for plenary morning.
However these 2 days are just the start, our aim is to support and inspire educators to run their own flights with their own students. Skycademy attendees will receive support & equipment to help facilitate this as part of a 12 month programme.
Attendees will be supported throughout the course by experienced HAB enthusiasts and the Raspberry Pi Education Team.
