Blank Screen XBMC

Wed Feb 11, 2015 7:42 am

I picked up a pi 2 1gb yesterday.

formatted a 16gb sandisk class 10 card with the formatter tool, copied over noobs.

all seems ok, noobs loads no problems, xbmc installs fine, click ok then nothing but a blank screen.

yanked out the power, plugged back in, goes through the boot, asks me to choose OS, click xbmc, blank screen again.

have tried an 8gb sandisk class4 sd aswell with the same result, tried pulling out the hdmi and plugging back in.

have opened up the config and set hdmi group 2 mode 4, still blank screen.

any ideas???

Hi and welcome to the forum.
It is my understanding, maybe incorrectly, that XBMC is not compatible with the Pi 2.
If so NOOB's needs changing so that it is not selectable as an OS if running a Pi 2.

http://OpenELEC.TV/get-openelec has a version of Kodi (aka XBMC) that runs on RPI2

You just have to remember to image the card with Win32DiskImager or do and not simply copy the img file. The only image that is updated on the download page is Raspbian all the others you have to get from their respective websites.
There are 10 types of people: those who understand binary and those who don't.

Does the RPi seem to be booting? Can your display differentiate between no HDMI input and an HDMI input of a black screen?

Suggest you temporarily try Raspbian to test your hardware.

1. If you've never had any card boot with this RPi, get another card and put Raspbian on it, either via NOOBS or the image.

2. If you have previously had any successful boot with this card on this RPi but are now failing with OpenELEC, I'd suspect a problem with the way you are writing the card. After writing the card with DiskImager, safely eject it. Then insert again to you PC and look at the card with Windows Explorer or equivalent. What files and folders can you see?

Both are compressed and must be decompressed to get the image file before using DiskImager. I think 7zip will be able to decompress either of them.

Edit: I've just downloaded both and 7zip is indeed able to extract the .img file from both of them.

Just an update. The openelec worked fine, even works from my TV remote which was unexpected, keeping a keen eye open for the rasplex release for pi2.
