Ubuntu / Linaro for Raspberry Pi 2

Sat Feb 07, 2015 1:34 am

I've rolled an Ubuntu 14.10 / Linaro 15.01 "developer" image for the Raspberry Pi 2.
Default hostname: raspberry
Default user: linaro (password=linaro)

Key points here are that it's compiled for ARMv7 and ARMHF, so should be faster than the Raspbian image by some amount. And it'll have more recent versions of software because that version of Ubuntu is significantly newer than Debian Wheezy!

EDIT
Latest version (BitTorrent): http://vps.dryft.net/raspuntu-tjc-2015- ... ip.torrent
HTTP mirror: http://lucario.info/archive/raspuntu-tjc-2015-02-16.zip

Hi

I have downloaded this and booted up, but struggling to ssh in - is it pi raspberry as usual, or have you used a different user/password combination

The hostname defaults to "linaro-developer" and the login/password is linaro / linaro
It says that on the login message if you plug a monitor in, but sorry, should have mentioned upfront.

For what it's worth -- Running LXDE on this distro with Chromium, feels significantly faster than running Chromium on Raspbian.

I've got Flash working in this using the instructions here:

http://blog.valitov.me/2014/06/installi ... m.html?m=1

Trying to watch some 6 Nations (on the iPlayer website) on it at the moment but have a fair bit of tearing. I wonder if there is anything I can do to improve it?

YMMV.

I only have another 2Gb micro SD card for now, can i, like Raspbian, put the boot files on the SD card and write the ISO to an USB flash drive?

Try to compile xf86-video-fbturbo instead of using fbdev :-)

One caveat,

as the image is, if you use your micro-sd card in more than one RaspberryPi2, udev will change eth0 to eth1 based on the new LAN MAC address (this is disabled in raspbian) which will cause any static IP addresses assigned to eth0 to not be assigned (there will be no eth0)

I believe you can permanently alter this by:

deleting: /etc/udev/rules.d/70-persistent-net.rules
editing: /lib/udev/rules.d/75-persistent-net-generator.rules

Change the lines:

# device name whitelist
KERNEL!="eth*|ath*|wlan*[0-9]|msh*|ra*|sta*|ctc*|lcs*|hsi*", \

to:

# device name whitelist
KERNEL!="ath*|msh*|ra*|sta*|ctc*|lcs*|hsi*", \

and reboot

This should probably be the default behaviour for this build seen as it is in raspbian

Regards

Thanks for the suggestions regarding ethernet udev rules and the fbturbo X driver -- I'll look at including those in an updated release soon.

Actually further to that -- I'll have a new release ready to go this evening, assuming it tests OK. The fbturbo thing cross-compiled easily enough.

New features will be:
* LXDE desktop pre-installed
* fbturbo X video driver
* udev network tweaks as suggested
* system hostname changed to "raspberry"

This needs upporting the DRM/KMS driver(mine is a little unstable as of now) and compiling Mesa with VC4 support.

That's great, thanks! I'm just embarrassed my upstream connection is so poor, here in Australia's second-biggest city, just a few kilometres from the central business district.
