Don't see the relevance of that link to my question, what I'm looking for is ninja-build, see https://martine.github.io/ninja/

Added the Debian repository to sources, now it finds it, strange that no one has put this in the Raspbian repository.

remove the debian repositories before you break your PRI

Did that after getting ninja-build. Not a Noob with Pi's or Linux. If it breaks I can always reflash and restore a backup, done that quite a few times.

I usually use a VM for building but decided to try the Pi2, speed at the moment looks promising, just started a build which took 12 hours on my Ubuntu VM, any better time will be a testament to the new Pi.

It might be OK on a RPI2 although a hybrid Raspbian/DebIan installation may be a monster in disguise.
