Plugging in camera module causes LEDs to go out.

Wed Feb 04, 2015 12:03 am

Hi,

When I plug in my camera module into the Pi it causes the ACT and PWR leds to turn off then the back of the camera board heats up considerably! I have tried it on a few different Pis and the same thing happens. I have again used different power supplies as well so its not a power issue. Really confused the ribbon cable looks fine so does the module!

Is the cable good?
Is it a genuine RPi camera board?
Did it work before you borked it?

Are you connecting the camera with the power on? Not recommended if so.

Otherwise it sounds like either a faulty sensor/board, or a dodgy cable. Might be worth popping off the little "Sunny" connector on the camera board and connecting up with it disconnected to see if you can confirm whether it is the sensor itself or the board that is faulty, or it could be that connector that is at fault and just remaking it will sort things out.
If it's already got very hot, then you may have fried something already and it will now be a dead board.
