DIY hub usb powered

Hi, the second trouble when you have access to your Raspi is try to connect some usb pdevices (WiFi, pen, HD...).
To do this you need a powered hub usb.
Are you lucky? You have one in your miracle-box!
Aren't you lucky? You have a non-powered USB HUB but you can transform it in few minutes!
Take an unutilized USB extension cable (Male-Female), strip its external coating and find red and black wires that are rispectively + and - 5Vdc power.
Strip black wire without cut it and solder a length of similar wire to.
Cut red wire and solder a lenght in direction to the female USB connector. Leave the other cutted red wire insulated (in direction to Male USB connector).
Were you soldered wires you need to insulate with little stripes of electrical tape.
Now you need an external 5Vdc power supply: like that you are using to power your Raspi is OK!
Find positive (+) and negative (-) on plug and connect two wires that coming out from the USB cable, to it. Normally positive is the centre and negative is external of plug (find drawing in the body of the power supply).
Insulate with electrical tape connections on the plug and work is finished.
Now you can use this cable to connect Raspi or what-you-want to a native non-powered hub usb .
Remember to connect power supply before turn on Raspy.

Although red and black are frequenty used for +5 and 0 volts respectively there is no requirement to do so. Always check with a meter before connecting.
