The big problem with using the old image is there is no official support by Arch for that very old image now, so be aware of that. I tried linking to the above from the archlinuxarm forum itself and was totally frowned upon.

Also, people will need to know how to update, you cannot use the commands they use in Raspbian. You must use our package manage, pacman:

pacman -Syu

Also, if all someone knows is Windows, a common problem is that Windows cannot see the root partition at all because DOS cannot read the ext4 formatted partition.

the officially supported way to install Arch without doing it from scratch is to install it from the Foundation's NOOBs (download section of this site). If they still are including Arch in NOOBs. And if you have trouble with NOOBs, that is something to ask in the Newbies subforum here. And then immediately after installed, to update with pacman.

Forgot to mention, the update will not take effect unless you also sync and reboot afterwards. And watch the messages for warnings and suggestions as the update proceeds.

pacman -Syu
sync
reboot

afaiaa this .img does not support the B+ therefore USB / Ethernet will not work until updated firmware is installed chicken & egg situation

....therefore as time goes on using an old .img will cause more issues than it resolves.

Officially creating an SD Card from .img is no longer supported http://archlinuxarm.org/platforms/armv6/raspberry-pi

I believe it has been or will be withdrawn from NOBS

Last but not least this solution has been discussed before at length so a regurgitation
