latest software and question about browser

Thu Jan 01, 2015 3:51 am

Hi, last time the pi was turned off the xmbc logo was gone and replaced with KODI. Since then we've noticed rewind and fast forward don't work as well. Has anyone else noticed it and can anything be done about it ?

Is there a browser available for the pi that will play YouTube BBC IPlayer clips ?

Thanks for any help or info.

The RPi Operating Systems do not and never will support Adobe Flash Player

Raspbian Wheezy Operating System

Epiphany Web Browser will play HTML5 videos with varying results

kweb browser is what you need and important to read the documentation first regards its capabilities

No.

You need to write to the BBC and complain loudly about this. They need to drag their web site and video clips into the 21st century and stop using Flash (which is old and unsupported).

Actually if you use the "mobile" BBC iPlayer website it is HTML5, well it is on my Android Device in Chromium Browser ;)

Youtube is supported with kweb ;)

bbc.co.uk is also supported by youtube-dl and so it might work with kweb's play function.
Minimal Kiosk Browser (kweb)
Slim, fast webkit browser with support for audio+video+playlists+youtube+pdf+download
Optional fullscreen kiosk mode and command interface for embedded applications
Includes omxplayerGUI, an X front end for omxplayer

Sorry... it's all too complicated for me! I'll just take a pc down and plug it in to the TV to get a browser,
But - please - is it possible to restore the pi to xbmc mode instead of KODI? We have lost all the previous features that worked so well and now it's a disaster! Can't rewind properly or fast forward. Also I'd prefer not update anything, just leave it alone when all is well. When powering down it always complains it wasn't shut down properly, but you have to pull the plug if nothing else works or it has crashed.

There are 4 versions of XBMC http://www.raspberrypi.org/downloads

Raspbian Wheezy with XBMC software installed
XBian
Raspbmc
OpenElec

It does state on all the blogs I have read that a fresh install of KODI is preferable over an in place XBMC to KODI upgrade.

Therefore would advise a fresh install of an Operating System and backup frequently

Thanks fruitoftheloom, appreciate the advise. I'd like to do a new install but I'm very wary of breaking
something and making it worse. If there was a plain language step-by-step set of instructions I'd give it a go.
We only use it for streaming media and my wife relies in it... so buggering it up would go down like a lead ballon!

Just grab another SD Card and fresh install OpenElec ;)
