No video output

Sun Dec 28, 2014 4:56 pm

Hello,
My Raspberry Pi is correctly plugged, but my screen (which works, I tested it before) doesn't work. I read some topics of people with the same problem, but nothing worked.

Could you help me ?

Is it not booting or is it just that you don't get any video output?
Anyway, see the troubleshooting sticky: http://www.raspberrypi.org/forums/viewt ... 28&t=58151

I read this topic too.

Yes, in fact, I didn't give you any informations, so let's do it :
My screen has a VGA input, and because I don't have any direct HDMI/VGA adapter, I use 2 : 1 HDMI/DVI and another one DVI/VGA. There is no power problem, the voltage is 5.23V.
My config.txt contains :

Code: Select all

hdmi_force_hotplug=1
hdmi_group=1
hdmi_mode=1
( I also tried config_hdmi_boost=8 but it didn't work)

I precise that my Raspberry Pi correctly boots. (ACT LED blinks)

what do you mean by "adapter", is it simply a passive cable adapter? Then it won't work, the PI does not output analog signals, you MUST use an active converter. Read the pictorial buyers guide for more details.

That will never work.

As mahjongg says, an HDMI output contains no analogue signals. No amount of passive adapters can connect that to a VGA input.

Ok, thank you for your help.
I've got no choice, so I'll buy an active adapter.

It WILL work, but only if the DVI to VGA adapter is an actual converter, rather than just a cable.

The one I linked to is powered from the USB, the one you show has no external power... ;)

The second image appears to show an HDMI to VGA adapter with analogue audio output. It does not show the adapter using its own power supply. Most people will recommend that you use an HDMI to VGA adapter with its own power supply, since the Pi can sometimes have trouble powering the adapter. You would be best using an adapter with its own power supply. Although I have two adapters without their own power supply that work fine I would not recommend this since it may not work.

If you use an HDMI to VGA adapter then you obviously do not need the HDMI to DVI adapter. You probably don't need one with analogue sound output either, unless you need a second analogue sound output - the Pi already has one of those built in.
