should I use radar or Laser for truck detection

Wed Dec 10, 2014 1:43 am

I trying a big truck and when I turn there's a bind spot which i cannot see people or cars . I want to devise a system using the Pi and it can detect whether there's something in the bind spot anywhere within 2 feet to the truck.

Should I use laser or should I use doppler radar for this one? Pricing and easy to use is a big factor.

If it were me I would use video camera(s) with IR illumination for nighttime. Then maybe use object detection software.... Screen would be optional.... https://www.cl.cam.ac.uk/projects/raspb ... detection/
Unless specified otherwise my response is based on the latest and fully updated RPiOS Buster w/ Desktop OS.

Ultrasonics would be easier and cheaper and not necessarily need a RPi.
You might even be able to take a reversing collision detector off a car to do the job.
