Why two Raspbians?

Mon Dec 08, 2014 10:17 am

I am absolutely beginning. I have a dozen options in OS to choose from. The first TWO are versions of Raspbian, the first looks like it's on a plug, the second looks as if it's on a card. Is that right? - the symbols are very small!

The RPi has no BIOS, therefore the boot files and OS are on a SD Card

Do you mean on the NOOBS installer screen?

If it has a card icon it means it's available for offline installation. If it has a little plug it means you NEED a wired ethernet connection between your RPi and your home router/switch (online installation) to install that option.

I think the OP is referring to the SD card (used in the model A or B or B rev 2) vs Micro SD as used in the A+ or B+.
You are in a maze of twisty little passages, all alike.

Not sure about that - Dougie seems to be on the right track.

If the O.P. is using NOOBS then that does offer two "versions" of Raspbian, the second being one setup to boot directly into Scratch**. I wonder if this is the source of confusion?
Trev.
** As can be seen in these, now somewhat old (NOOBS 1.3.2), monitor photographs:

and also (just) for NOOBS 1.3.9 here:

Still running Raspbian Jessie or Stretch on some older Pi's (an A, B1, 2xB2, B+, P2B, 3xP0, P0W, 2xP3A+, P3B+, P3B, B+, and a A+) but Buster on the P4B's. See: https://www.cpmspectrepi.uk/raspberry_pi/raspiidx.htm

I think Douglas is right. I clicked on the card version, and it seems to have worked. Many thanks for all replies.
