HID keyboard reports are not simple single key up/down messages. It is an array of up to 6 keycodes of currently pressed keys. So for your example scenario, when the next report arrives without the previously pressed keycode, the parser knows that the previous key has been released.

Made significant progress on the USB issues today, I think I've got the right solution, just ironing out the bugs, but all these issues should disappear in another couple of weeks...

Just booted up my Pi for the first time and plugged a wireless USB adapter for my MS 2000 mouse and keyboard (50mA). Hardly works at all. Letters repeating it self, some are not working etc. etc.
Do I have to go and by a wired set instead or is there any solution?

Edit: Just found out that it was listed under "Problem Keyboards" http://elinux.org/RPi_VerifiedPeriphera ... _Keyboards

Yes, I have also found that every time I tried it.

While we wait for the definite solution, why not just accept the pull request from sonofusion82? I've got a wireless Microsoft 5000 set and it only works with ugly dwc_otg.speed=1 workaround.

I also got the repeating characters problem today, after a while of usage. Both with a Logitech iTouch Keyboard, and with a DELL SK-8125.

The problem went away when I disconnected the mouse (HP M-UV96).

I don't know if this helps or not, but I updated my RPi running Arch today and started to experience these problems. I hadn't updated since Dec 17th and everything was fine then, so I'm guessing something changed from then till now which is causing this?

Just a further note on the keystroking issue. I played with raspbmc and XBMC for the last couple of months and never saw any keyboard entry problems. Decided to download the latest raspian and get going on some C coding. Now with the exact same setup as with XBMC the repeat keystroke problem really shows up. Make it look like a software issue rather than the kybd device /PSU solutions I have seen on these boards.

Not altogether. Its not a problem for most keyboards but having just tested the latest raspdian with the latest kernel from github (#403) my Microsoft Sidewinder X4 still bounces keystrokes. But I think the latest USB updates have been aimed at webcams/audio devices rather than keyboards.

This is the thread you should be following:

(but still a work in progress)

I had a similar issue with a Logitech wireless keyboard - so bad that I was unable to login correctly as the repeating keystrokes would occur while trying to type my password. Typing through SSH connections was not affected. The problem appeared to manifest when I started the pulseaudio daemon. I disabled pulseaudio, and all seems normal now.

Not sure if this will help someone else out, but thought I'd post in case it does!

Was that with the latest firmware with the latest USB driver?

I was really looking forward to using my Pi. I find it very disappointing that the board is plagued with this repeat key problem.
It is time someone fronted up and admitted the unit is faulty or at least produced a software or hardware cure. Let's face it - the thing is almost useless without keyboard access. My MS wireless keyboard is useless with my R Pi, tomorrow I will buy a USB keyboard but it is a gamble isn't it. More wasted money likely!! None of the suggestions here make any difference. If I had bought it myself I would return it as faulty.

The problem isn't the PI! The problem lies in the fact that that the keyboard is susceptible to unstable/lower power, which is caused by a bad PSU or power cable, use another PSU/cable or another (no frills) keyboard, and the problem will go away!
also you are reacting to an ancient thread.

PSU is new, rated at 1A. On load voltage on Pi board is 4.93 V which is quite good.
Keyboard batteries are new and keyboard works perfectly on 4 other computers and over considerable distance. (Running Linux too)
The USB transmitter/Rcvr is rated at a low 50mA.
The reason the thread is ancient is of course the problem has always been there and remains for many people.
I will buy another keyboard, a USB wired type, NOT MS of course. :-))

Update
My "Genius" $24 USB wired keyboard and mouse works perfectly.
So I can stop complaining.
