Best benchmarking software?

Mon Dec 01, 2014 5:18 pm

What's the best benchmarking software for comparing, in general, the performance of a Raspberry Pi against other single-board computers out there? For instance, I'd like to compare my Raspberry Pi B+'s performance against that of a PCduino3 and also against a Cubox-i2ex as well as against a Beaglebone Black. I have all the hardware, but I need some sort of touchstone for comparing them. Suggestions? Recommendations?

As usual the best results you get from benchmarks are how fast any processor runs a benchmark. There is, of course, zero correlation between benchmarking and real-world computing. There's a whole sector of computer science dedicated to making benchmarks make Brand-X computers appear faster than Brand-Y.

You can use phoronix benchmarks to compare them. You can pick between various synthetic or practical tasks/usage benchmarks. Not everything works on ARM, and even small set may take days to run on RPi and similar weaker SBC. Here is one of my results: http://openbenchmarking.org/result/1407 ... 407013BY79 and you can use this tool to compare for example SD card performance.
