One power connection for raspberry pi and external HD?

Sun Nov 16, 2014 5:38 pm

Hi,

I'm new to the world of raspberry pi, and was contemplating making a simple NAS project.
I'm interested in using one power connection for the pi and ext HDD.
1 does an external HDD exclossure exists which can power a 3.5" drive and have a USB output to power the pi?
2 is there a specific USB charger to use with the pi, which will enable me to power an external 2.5" HDD, or is it best to have a powered USB hub?

Thanks!

The RPi Model B+ should be able to power a USB 1.8" or 2.5" Hard Drive, with a decent 5v 2A PSU
