Raspberry Pi clone

Wed Nov 12, 2014 2:14 pm

Hello! I have a question, maybe someone can help me.
Can I make a clone of Raspberry Pi (B + and A +), called Strawberry Pi [/ b] and do some 100 clones?
Waiting for an answer, please, answer :)

Good luck getting the BCM2835 from Broadcom. Ever wonder why a success like the Pi hasn't been cloned already ? (its over 2.5 years old).

Are you asking for technical or legal purposes?

Legally, you'd need to be able to argue that Strawberry Pi is not a trademark infringement. I am not a lawyer, but it seems like a stupid thing to do.

Technically, you won't be able to match or beat the raspberry pi price or do any charitable activities, so you're just not going to get the volume required to buy the SoC.

You can use some other chip and make a board inspired by the Raspberry Pi without trying to pass it off as a pi. However, if you're asking that sort of question on a forum, then you're probably going to have a bad time with it.

Morally and ethically: no

practically: no (see Pluggy's reply)

have you heard of the Odroid-w? they weren't very popular with the foundation (who rightly believed that this was just someone trying to make a profit from the foundation's hard work) and ultimately were unable to maintain a supply of components.

It would probably be better if you defined exactly what you want to do and then you might get a better response.

Are you not confused with the Odroid-w? The Banana Pi seems to do fine, it is not cpu/hardware compatible, not a Broadcom cpu.

It's theoretically possible, but you'd have to be bananas to do it.

(And you'd have a tough time getting a license for the firmware)

I'm of the personal opinion that odroid were a bit shakey as well, as they were piggy backing on the foundations firmware.
