OS not booting

Sun Nov 09, 2014 9:26 am

Hi
I just finished installing the NOOBS OS and it installed successfully, then gave me a dialog box which I clicked OK to reboot the PI. Then nothing happened, it didn't boot up. I turned it off and tried again, this time holding down the shift key. I got the installation startup screen successfully, and it confirmed that NOOBS was installed.
I tried once more to reboot the PI, but no success. The red light is on - no flickering, but nothing happens. Can you please advise what I need to do.
BTW - I didn't format the SD card, could this be the problem?

thanks
Michael

No. If that was going to cause a problem it would have been the first time that you booted the NOOBS SD card. Once you have got to the NOOBS recovery console you are past that potential problem.

NOOBS is not an OS proper. It is an OS installer. Did you install an OS (Raspbian) before rebooting?

Thanks for the reply. No, i didn't install the RASPIAN OS. I misunderstood what NOOBS is. I thought it contained the RASPIAN OS as well. That must be the problem. :?

So I think everything should be OK from here. I can get access to the installation screen, so should be able to install RASPIAN.

I'll let you know if it doesn't work.

Just for the record - if I found the explanation of what NOOBS actually is confusing, then there are probably others with the same problem. It might be good to clarify what you need to do if you are going down this path.

EDIT: Below is a para from the NOOBS documentation - no wonder I'm confused.

[QUOTE:]
WHAT'S INCLUDED IN NOOBS

The following Operating Systems are currently included in NOOBS:

Raspbian
Pidora
OpenELEC
RaspBMC
RISC OS
Arch Linux
As of NOOBS v1.3.10 (September 2014), only Raspbian is installed by default in NOOBS. The others can be installed with a network connection.

thanks

Yes the Noobs pages are out-of-date, which has been discussed at length in several very recent posts ;)

fyi if you change the board interface to ProSilver you will find it easier to search for the information
