Access internet and ssh into the Pi from a Windows computer

Tue Nov 04, 2014 10:50 pm

I'm trying to directly connect my raspberry pi to my computer running Windows 7. I would like to get internet through an ethernet cable connected to the computer so that I don't need a wireless adapter on my pi. The pi is running arch linux and from what I can tell, its ip address for the eth0 device is 192.168.1.87.

You need to be running ICS (Internet Connection Sharing) [*] on the Windows side. Then it should "just work".

[*] Or whatever they are calling it now. I stopped tracking Windows's endless marketing games at XP.
And some folks need to stop being fanboys and see the forest behind the trees.

(One of the best lines I've seen on this board lately)

If you're using a pass through connection, the Windows system will need to have two NICs. Alternatively, get a router and connect both devices to the router and the router to your DSL/Cable modem.
