Local Images??

Sat Oct 25, 2014 5:08 pm

I'm a serious beginner to the RP and have just reformatted my card and installed NOOBS onto it, fitted card powered up and it went through 4 colour screen then into mid screen window with top row of 'install, edit config, help and exit icons but immediately an internal pop up says no network access... wired network access is required to use NOOBS without local images, insert a network cable
i was under the impression RP works without internet connection so it's something i have done with the card i'm sure... help please :?

I suspect you have downloaded and copied the NOOBS Lite installer, which contains no Operating System images and requires a working wired ethernet connection to the internet to be able to install an OS.

However, the full NOOBS installer DOES contain a compressed image of the Raspbian OS, so that this can be installed without needed an internet connection.

Hiya, I have the same problem with the NOOBS installer and I have downloaded the full NOOBS installer. However it still comes up with the four colours screen and then it comes up with ' wired network access is required to use NOOBS without local images.' I have a wireless nano USB adapter, will this work instead of inserting the network cable?

Thank you in advance for the help.

Are you trying to install Raspbian? Are you sure you downloaded NOOBS Full?

NOOBS cannot use wireless network for the installation of an OS. The OS can however use wireless after you've installed it.

Hello,

I'm new to raspberry and noobs. I've downloaded NOOBS_v1_9_2 (i.e. full offline version dated 2016-05-27).

Still i'm being asked to use a "wired network access ......"

Can anyone please suggest a way out ?

Thanks,

This is quite strange that no solution to this issue is available online !!

Is this related to the RPi hardware version ??

I've got a solution 8-)

Follow the following steps after downloading the full version of NOOBS.

1. Browse to your downloaded ( and extracted) NOOBS_v1_9_2 folder.

2. Cut and paste the "Raspbian" folder to \OS folder (on your Windows PC)

3. Cut paste following files (from \OS\) to \OS\Raspbian (on your Windows PC)
boot.tar.xz
os.json
partition_setup.sh
partitions.json
Raspbian.png
root.tar.xz

4. Cut Paste 'slides_vga' folder form \OS to \OS\Raspbian (on your Windows PC)

5. Cut Paste A.png to G.png from \OS to \OS\Raspbian (on your Windows PC)

6. Format your SD card as per following link (How to format an SD card as FAT)
https://www.raspberrypi.org/documentati ... n/noobs.md

7. Copy the contents of NOOBS_v1_9_2 folder to your SD card.

8. Insert the SD card to Raspberry Pi and wait for 5 minutes after boot and black screen.

Hope you will find it helpful.

Thanks.

NOOBS will only support wifi using Broadcom wifi dongles or the builtin Rpi3 wifi. If you don't have these you must use an ethernet cable to access the other distris.

I added some wifi support (RT5370, zd1211 etc) and some additional usb ethernet dongles for PiZero and model A users to PINN, so you can try that. It will also install OSes from USB sticks.
