Do you a key that can prevent xbmc to load at startup by any chance ?

Don't think you can, but you can open a console from the XMBC UI; IIRC by selecting exit in the shutdown menu.

BTW: you could try this when logging in with VNC.

I managed to access the console through VNC
As I said, just select 'exit' in the power / shutdown menu. After that you should see the login prompt.
