Click Switch, breadboard

Mon Oct 20, 2014 6:01 am

Hey Guys,

Sorry if i'm posting this to the wrong topic, i'm pretty new on this and i all i know about hardware is anything that goes back 15 years when i was at UNI. Now I decided to build this hack at work using PI and i really hope you guys could give me some light.

It's something pretty simple and i already made some research so i am familiar with a few things.

Basically, I want to add 2 click switches that would send a message to my program that it has been clicked. Easy like that.

So basically my question is, what hardware exactly do i need to make it working?

I know i might need a breadboard, some jump cable wires, click switch (although i havent find it to buy it), and than what?

Any help would be appreciate. And again, sorry if i posted to the wrong topic, i just not very familiar with most of the topics i was reading through.

Thanks

The Screaming Jelly Baby tutorial shows how to connect a basic switch. [Using a Jelly Baby and an mp3 are not compulsory.]

A couple of resistors are normally recommended, you will want a 10k resistor to pull the input high (so that you know when the switch isn't made) and a 1k resistor between the input and the switch (so that you won't fry your pi if a software error causes the input to become into an output while the switch is made).

Breadboard isn't essential (but is recommended), you could do this by soldering the parts together if you wanted.

you may find that the switch you select won't fit into a breadboard, if so then you may need to solder wires to the legs of the switch.

I have some switches similar to these, they don't fit onto breadboard.
