Raspberry Pi In A Car

Fri Oct 10, 2014 6:03 pm

I have a 2010 Nissan Altima I have been modding this summer. I already have a double din head unit install that has GPS, and DVD. I also have a Samsung Galaxy Tab 4 installed running Android 4.4.2.
I want to hook the Raspberry Pi up to a 3.5" or 4.3" touchscreen and mount the monitor on my dash.

I just don't know what to use the Pi for. Can you guys give me some ideas or uses that other forum members have done in the past as far as using Raspberry Pi in their automobiles?

I don't need GPS or audio or video since the tablet covers the video and audio and the double din unit covers the GPS.

I would put the tablet in the 2Din hole and make a slick interface for it to do everything.

On-Board Diagnostics and data logging
Music
Offline GPS turn by turn navigaion
Offline wikipedia
Offline TTS book reader
Backup camera
unlock car with mobile or pin for key-less entry
thermal vision (costly at $200)
dash cam

maybe some Online stuff to like navigation around traffic etc
skype
sms me when the car heats up after auto start on a cold night.
respond to sms with gps location if you forgot where you parked.
sms when car alarm goes off with remote video feed.
sms to unlock/lock.

I'm sure I'll think of more later.
