boot and midori questions

Hi,
Got my pi! Installed debian on my SD card. Plug everything in and boot. For between 30 seconds to 1 minute I get fast scrolling errors on the screen. Then booting starts and proceeds without a problem (or so it seems). I created a second SD card and it exhibited the same behavior. Both cards are brand spanking new. Why am I getting these errors? How can I correct the problems?

Then I log in. I can ping and receive responses from websites like google.com . Next I start LXDE (not my favorite, but ....). I did this at work where we are required to use a proxy server for our web stuff. I entered the proxy server address. When I try to access google.com sometimes midori shows me html source code rather than a rendered web page. Other times it shows me a link to the proxy server (when I have google.com in the location bar). Why is that? How do I correct the behavior?

I must say I have been connecting directly to our router rather than trying to go through our server, which requires me to set the Pi up on our LAN. I have installed Firestarter but I feel happier keeping the Pi away from the LAN.

We tend to use Chrome as the preferred browser, and it does occasionally bring up the source of a web page rather than rendering it. I've always assumed, for no good reason, that it's a speed issue, but that is a semi-informed (at most) guess. if you try reloading a web page then it may well render properly the next time around. I would guess the proxy server link is also a timing issue. Are you running ISA server as well?

I downloaded chromium (apt-get chromium-browser) and I am also using xfce instead of ldxe; I am used to Chrome at work and it seems to handle memory better, and I much prefer its style. I find the same is true of xfce v. lxde but I suspect the SD card you have may also play a significant part, to some degree at least.
