Multi OS without destroying the current Raspbian

Mon Sep 08, 2014 6:09 pm

Hi ! I have a raspberry b+ and I have installed Raspian on it without NOOBS.
I installed few things and configured them hardly  .

Now I'd like to install PwnPi on the same SD card but I don't know how to proceed to avoid to have to reinstall all.

Thanks for reading this :) I would be grateful if someone could help me.

Go to Tesco or Sainsburys and spend £8. Get a new SDCard it will be easier in the long run.

2 SD cards is hard ?

Very easy to achieve with a VM setup but I can't see a Pi handling VMs.

NOOBS has reformatted the SDCard as part of the install. It's non-trivial to undo that stuff so that you can add a couple of extra partitions for your new OS.

You new OS is shipped as a ready to go SDCard image (don't know how it's partitioned) and isn't in a format that's compatible with NOOBS.

I'd always recommend 3 SD cards for each Pi you own. They are are hardly HDD prices unless you're looking at very large sizes, and I'd never commit a huge amount of information to anything as tetchy and unreliable as flash memory. 8GB is plenty, if you want a load of storage for your dodgy movies, use a USB HDD.

He is not using Nobs "Hi ! I have a raspberry b+ and I have installed Raspian on it without NOOBS."

The OP maybe http://www.berryterminal.com/doku.php/berryboot

You would need to create a disk image in a format compatable, not straightforward ;)
Rather than negativity think outside the box !

Can you? YES you can.
Is it practical? NO it's not

You can resize your partitions to fit another OS by using Gparted from your Linux desktop or a livecd for the root partition cannot be resized while mounted.

Next you can boot Raspbian to install the other image using dd but not in the same way you would normaly do since the image has two partitions in it so you need to figure out the where the first block of the second partition starts and copy from there on. (F-up possibilities are endless here)

Once installed there is no bootloader so every time you'd like to switch OS you need to edit the bootcmd.txt file manually.

If you're still interested I can give you a more detailed answer.
