can it be done torrent server

Mon Sep 08, 2014 10:37 am

Guys

I am thinking of buying a Raspberry Pi for sharing torrents, this is what I would like to do:

Buy the Pi and put it on the home network linked to a goflex USB drive. this would be the cheapest way I can see because it could stay working 24/7

The question is because I am disabled, and after setting it all up I would like it to go over where the TV is and the goflex drive, also I could easily run the HDMI cable to the TV

Question:
What I would like to know is, do I have to have to buy a keyboard and mouse or can I do everything through the RJ45 home network, like config the Pi etc, copy files from the Goflex drive linked to the Pi to my media center over the network, like you can a PC or MAC

Hope you guys understand the question, would be very greatful for an answer.

Peter

dunno what a goflex drive is but all you really need is a USB2.0 HD adapter and a drive

Thanks for replying, the goflex is just a USB 3TB drive.

So I would be able to work the Pi though the home network and would no need a separate keyboard??

I have seen several reports of USB3 enclosures not behaving as you would like on RPI's
cheap sata | usb 2 will generally have no issues ,

having installed raspbian [if you have no usb keyboard then going via noobs will be hard but rasbian direct will be fine] you can do everything via ssh

I also have my Pi set-up for file and disk sharing with transmission-daemon for managing torrents from any (allowed) browser and autofs so I can mount my usb disks over the network on any pc so you won't have to switch cables anymore.

Here is how I've set-up my Pi. the howto does not cover transmission but that's a matter of

Code: Select all

sudo apt-get install transmission-daemon
and edit it's config if the defaults are not secure enough for you.
