You will need to download the Youtube Videos with youtube-dl first, maybe omxplayer would be better than mplayer ?

Yes, by setting the -g option. That's exactly what I'm doing now to get flash based web video from Minimal Kiosk Browser; I send the URL to omxplayer(GUI), which plays the stream directly from the server. No need to download anything.

You can't. You have to use omxplayer:

yt --player omxplayer
