Xauth: timeout upon start up
after not using my pi for a long time i went on it and discovered that after i have logged in and typed 'startx' a message comes up saying " Xauth: timout in locking authority file /home/pi/.Xauthority" and then it turns off. Please help

Try deleting .Xauthority
