Are all 3v3, GND and 5v pins equal?

Wed Aug 13, 2014 7:50 pm

Are all the 3v3, GND and 5v pins equal? Are they connected together internally or is there a difference between them.

I've learnt Pi from Adafruit's guides and they always seem to use the 3v3 from top left, GND from 3rd pin down on right and 5v from top right.

I'm designing a PCB and I'd like to connect to GND on the bottom right, and 5v from the second pin on the right.

I seem to remember reading in the early days of the Pi that the 3v3 and GND pins at the top half have extra protection on them.

Yes, all 3.3V pins are connected together. All GND pins are connected together and all 5V pins are connected together.

The original specs only showed the first set of pins and all the others were marked DNC (Do Not Connect), but the design was soon finalised and the additional pins were designated official Power connections.
