I had the same issue with Raspbmc. Tried it with noobs, worked fine.

Then you either used an old download of Raspbmc or you didn't flash it properly to the SD card. On the downloads page here the standalone Raspbmc and the one in NOOBS are, to all intents and purposes, the same.

There is nothing wrong with the Raspbmc image in the downloads section here. The Xbian images at http://www.xbian.org/download/ are too old to work on the B+. It may be possible to use them after updating the files in the boot partition.

Try overwiting with the files at https://github.com/raspberrypi/firmware ... aster/boot. These are all in the part of the SD card that Windows can access. (I've never used xbian.).

any updates? i just got my B+ and have the same issue (no booting), I tried updating the boot files and all I got was the back light of the lcd monitor to turn on (before it was like the pi was off), but still no boot :(

With a new RPi B+, a valid microSD card, an adequate power supply, and a working monitor any current Operating System downloaded from http://www.raspberrypi.org/downloads/ should 'just work' : no need to update anything separately.

See http://www.raspberrypi.org/forums/viewt ... 28&t=58151

What is your starting point - do you have a 'working' SD card from an earlier RPi that you are trying to use with a B+, or is this a new installation?
