rasbian vs rasbmc wifi

Tue Aug 12, 2014 3:40 am

I have no problem establishing a wireless connection for a new OS installation using wi-fi config for Raspbian via the X gui. no ethernet connection required to do this. Not so good on Raspbmc. is there any way of obtaining a wi-fi network manager in Raspbmc (via Programs/get more or other means) without an ethernet connection?
I have tried establishing the wi-fi through the Programs/Raspbmc Settings/Network Configuration. I can scan the available networks, find my home network, and enter the password for the home network. But I do not know what the other settings should be to successfully complete the process (Raspbmc Settings and System/Internet access). After reboot, IP address under System/Summary Information is blank.
Am I missing something? Why is it simple/easy in Raspbian without ethernet, and not simple/easy in Raspbmc without ethernet? Any suggestions greatly appreciated!!
