Rusty Pi?

Fri Aug 08, 2014 5:16 pm

I have an old Pi B. It still works, but is very rusty on the metal ports! Has this happened to anyone else?

Not with a Pi.

Where were you putting this Pi? the times i've had that sort of thing happen to electronics have usually involved outdoor enclosures that weren't as waterproof as I thought they were.

It's been sitting on my desk / in a box. It has never been exposed to water or humid air, and yet the ports are quite rusty. I have a new B+, the metal appears to be different than the B (v1).

Thanks for such an early reply.

I have a B and about 9 B+'s.. None of them are like that at all.. The only way for them to corrode or oxidize is if there was condensation building up and drying off..

No it's still in good condition as is the 2 1/2 year old Micro SD card.

Do you live in a humid climate or is your environment exposed to high levels of moisture??

My B v1.0 shows no sign of any tarnishing. The room in which it has been in since May 2012 doesn't get particularly humid very often. Current RH is 75%.

I wouldn't expect any sign of rust for over 10 years.
