First boot problem

Sat Aug 02, 2014 1:45 pm

I've just bought my pi. I chose Raspbian, following the online get started guide. It scrolled through a lot of stuff, and booted straight into the game (can't remember what it is called - the one with the sprite you can dress and move and so on). If I quit this game the computer shuts down. I haven't seen any setup screen to set timezone etc, and I haven't been asked to log in to anything. Help!

More information. I re-installed the OS. Same result. It boots to Scratch. f I quit Scratch and hit CTRL-C I get the command prompt. I type startx, and the computer closes down anyway.

If you installed Raspbian Wheezy from http://www.raspberrypi.org/downloads

Then it should on fist boot take you to the raspi-config configuration screen http://www.raspberrypi.org/documentatio ... -config.md

Then you can choose variuos option....
Rather than negativity think outside the box !
RPi 4B 4GB (SSD Boot)..

To reset it, press CTRL+ALT+F2 and login (pi and raspberry) and type sudo raspi-config, select boot to and choose desktop or command line.
There are 10 types of people: those who understand binary and those who don't.

"To reset it, press CTRL+ALT+F2 and login (pi and raspberry) and type sudo raspi-config, select boot to and choose desktop or command line."

Thanks for the help. I just typed raspi-config, and got a message telling me to use sudo. It worked. Great.

I first saw your strapline in a book in the 1960s. " All men are divided into two groups. Those who divide men into two groups, and those who don't. I belong to the latter". Unforgettable.

Anyway, I'm up and running. Thanks again.

PS Wasn't asked to log in at all. Is that significant?

Along with the similar "There are 3 types of people in the world. Those that can count and those that can't." :)
