Double Click to Single Tap

Hi,
I have integrated a touch screen with my RPi, I wanted to change the behaviour of Raspbian OS desktop to launch applications when I tap on it without having to do a double-tap. Is there a way to achieve this. Please let me know.

According to other sources this should also affect desktop icons, etc.
