Mouse and Keyboard Problems

Wed Jul 30, 2014 10:15 pm

Hello! When I boot any OS on the raspberry pi (not any, but raspbian and openelec), the mouse and keyboard are fine at the beginning, but then they behave very strangely. It is most noticeable on the mouse when you see the red light turning on for a quarter of a second, waiting for a second, and then repeating. Then it becomes unusable. I plugged in ethernet and the lights go off with the mouse and keyboard. Earlier, I overclocked to try to play HD videos (didn't make a difference) so maybe that broke a piece? Any help is appreciated!

Looks like a power problem. If not a B+, can you measure TP1 to TP2 voltage?

The weird thing is that I have been using this power supply for almost a year and it has not given me problem. As for the other part, I am a complete noob at hardware. I like software more. And yes, it is not a B+ but a B. I do have a voltage meter if that helps.

I tested the voltage and with the USB hub, it was at somewhere around 4.4 or somewhere there. When we took out the USB hub, at the beginning it was in the right range, but then settled at around 4.4 also. The oS boots still. Is this .35 difference from the desired range something I should be concerned about?

Edit: I tested it later and it dropped to 4.25

Edit: now it is at 3.8 and I measured the temp of the CPU and GPU and they were both at 135 F or 55 C. The screen dimmed and nothing is happening.

Yes. The minimum voltage for a USB peripheral to work correctly is 4.75V. Any lower and it is not guaranteed to work at all.

Maybe your power supply isn't giving out enough current or voltage or your microUSB power is not up to spec.

Another thing to measure is the voltage between each end of the fuse F3 (F1 on V1.20 boards) on the underside near the microUSB socket. It should be a very low value, like 0.1V

I tested between the TP2 and the F3 (the green square?) and the voltage on both sides was 5.1 plugged in and 0.4 not plugged in. I'm guessing the fuse is blown. I kept the Pi for the night, thinking it would correct itself as it said it the wiki, but it did not. Please correct me if I get anything wrong.

Try another PSU.

Sometimes they fail over time.
