[Debian] Kernel Panic - not syncing: Try passing init= ....

Wed Jun 13, 2012 11:59 am

Hello,

fisrst of all.. I don`t know if I´m right here.

My problem:
When I start I get the message "Kernel Panic - not syncing: Try passing init= option to kernel".
I´ve installed debian squeeze from this site, copied with win32diskimager to the sd-card like it shown in the quick guide.

I tried ArchLinux as well and this one works but I need a graphic interface :)

What can I do now to run debian correctly?

It might be worth trying the new Debian image we're testing (the fact Arch works suggests your problem has been fixed with the newer firmware that Arch and this new Debian testing image use):

I encountered this error when loading from an older SD card. Using a more modern MicroSDHC card with exactly the same disk image, the problem simply went away.

I encountered the same problem with the Debian image. I'm using a SDHC card (not a micro card).
Will give Archlinux a try.

@Knuf Well, it may have nothing to do with the SD card.
I get it works by re-burning the image to the same SD card by following the steps in:
http://elinux.org/RPi_Easy_SD_Card_Setup

What I did wrong at the first time was that I skipped "sudo sync" (Step 9 in the linux section)

Unfortunately, this piece of info may not be very helpful to you since there does not seems to be any corresponding step in win32diskimager.
