Pi FTP speed

Fri Jul 25, 2014 6:36 pm

Hello,

I want to use my Pi as a NAS, so I installed an FTP service and SMB service
Everything works but the FTP is slow, about 1MB/s
Against the transfer by SMB is faster, up to 5MB/s

With an SFTP connection speed reaches as 1MB/s but then the CPU is used unlike a simple FTP connection

My HDD is formated in FAT, I read EXT4 would be better, but I'd also like to read this HDD on another device
And if the HDD reach 5MB/s with SMB, the FTP speed is not a formatting problem

One of you has he already installed a FTP service on a hard drive?
How fast you reach for transfers?

Do you have a tip to improve the speed?

Thank you

5MB/s sounds about right the the maximum transfer speed you will get out of the Pi. Not sure why FTP would be slower.

Are you ftping to or from the Pi ? And from where ? How are you measuring the speed ?
