Direct rpi to laptop connection to see rpi video o/p.

This may be a stupid question but is it possible to directly connect my RPi to my laptop via a cat 5 cable and USB cable to power the RPi and be able to have the full video output of the RPi on the laptop screen. I sure it would be possible to get the connection and power to the RPi but is there any open source software that would transfer video output rather than just giving a console output from the RPi on the laptop screen, then I could work on Lazarus during my breaks at work.

Only the power, I'm not sure if your computer can manage the current.
For the video you could use SSH and than Xming.

The more simple and adequate solution is VNC server, which will give you an exact copy of the desktop.
