Cryptsetup (Luks) on Raspbian

Tue Jun 24, 2014 8:01 am

Hi there,

I would like to use my encrypted external harddisk with Raspbian, but the drive does not mount. The drive has 3 Tb and is encrypted with cryptsetup. I have installed crypsetup previously. I read that I need to compile the kernel with dm-crypt. I step by step guide would be very much appreciated. :D

Cheers

You should not need to compile a kernel for dm-crypt because there is already a module for that in the Foundation's default kernel config. (It is possible, however, that the format of the specific drive requires unusual crypto algorithms that are not available.)

Have you tried anything beyond just plugging the drive in? I would not expect it to mount automatically. You want something on the lines of:

Code: Select all

sudo cryptsetup luksOpen /dev/sda1 secrets
sudo mount /dev/mapper/secrets /mnt

Awesone it works now!! :D Thanks for the infos. I have added also dm-crypt to the modules that are loaded on boot.

Return to “Raspbian”
