raspberry pi satellite

if put in a pressure vesicle could the raspberry pi be put in low Earth orbit to collect data.
A computer's power can't be just measured Gigahertz. It is the same thing with us humans.

How much electronics and programming experience do you have?

The key element is protection from radiation, protection from very low temperatures, then communication with ground based stations, permissions etc. Students often get access to CubeSat program - http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/CubeSat - and if Raspberry Pi based satellite would be approved then it could fly.

Would it even need a pressure vessel? Would it work okay in a vacuum?
Can't find the thread you want? Try googling : YourSearchHere site:raspberrypi.org

Because there are capacitors on the board and most capacitors will not function properly without a pressure vesicle. I know how to deal with maintaining pressure but what about electromagnetic interference from the sun and other sources ect.... It a vaccume heat would stay trapped on the raspberry pi board. In a vaccum could this cause the raspberry pi board to overheat?

Electronics that is space-compatible costs a lot, while it may be a Core 2 Duo board ;) And in general electronics in space is heated to some temperature at which they work and don't fail. You may look at http://www.srl.utu.fi/AuxDOC/tke/radmon ... andard.pdf or http://www.intechopen.com/books/aerospa ... cecraft#F6 for a computer diagram.
2.1.4
No pressure vessels over 1.2 standard atmosphere shall be permitted.
2.1.4.1 Pressure vessels shall have a factor of safety no less than 4.

Here's another thread - amateur electronics, just not raspi, but still relevant:

(It's a long read but there's interesting stuff in there.)
