Raspberry Pi as Network Keyboard

Tue Jun 10, 2014 6:28 am

Anyone know whether there's people write program to convert the raspberry pi to a network keyboard?
What I mean is, you can connect raspberry pi to a windows computer, and we can login to the raspberry pi through internet and do the typing. In other word, we use the raspberry pi as keyboard.
With an additional webcam/camera, you can watch the screen of your windows computer through internet, and do the typing through the internet.

Can't you run Remote Desktop software on the Windows
machine instead ? Waay easier.

One big problem is that nobody has yet convinced Linux
to make the Pi act as USB device , which is only theoretically
possible on the Model A anyway.

I'm not sure what you have in mind are you thinking like remote desktop, vnc or teamview?

On the other hand I have often thought about a 'home matrix of devices' ... where you can have keyboards, mice, displays, speakers, dvd players etc and then choose to 'pair' them to any other device in the 'home matrix' all through WiFi. .... was this what you meant?
Can't find the thread you want? Try googling : YourSearchHere site:raspberrypi.org

This is just an alternative to the remote desktop/vnc*.
If in some case you are not allowed to install vnc on your computer, you can use this alternative to do the similar remote access

I think Synergy will do what you want as long as the monitors for each computer are in the same room where you can see them:

Of course this requires software to be installed on each computer.
Unless specified otherwise my response is based on the latest and fully updated RPiOS Buster w/ Desktop OS.

I like the idea, you control the Pi which in turn controls the Windows PC by pretending to be the hardware keyboard. Therefore no additional software running on the WinPC, furthermore the WinPC could even be on a different network.

I can't imagine it is easy to acomplish though, without additional software installed on the WinPC you would need some electronics driven by the Pi to appear to be a keyboard on the WinPC.

It might be easier to purchase an IP based KVM solution, but they are not cheap. Will bookmark this thread, if some of the clever folks on these forums know how to achieve that, I would be very interested.

I second buying a KVM-over-IP solution. Waiting alone
won't solve these and your problems.
