where to get proper power supply in Canada

Thu Jun 07, 2012 4:25 pm

Hello,
I apologize if this topic has been beaten to death! I am in Canada, and want to order a power supply for my Model B that I just received. I ordered one from newark, but it looks like the current will be to low. So, I am wondering if anyone in Canada can tell me where I can order a properly rated supply from? I can order from the US, but don't want to pay import charges, etc.

I used my blackberry charger and it seemed to work good. Its rated at 700mA.

I also (and will be from now on) have used a powered USB hub to power my Pi and add peripherals.

You should be able to find either easily (Futureshop, Bestbuy. Walmart, Amazon.ca etc)

I purchased the Nokia AC-10U which is a 1200ma charger and it works well. $10.09 + (no tax) and free shipping. It shipped from the U.S. but there were no extra charge.

It took about a week to get it.

I tried an imitation cheap "2A" iPad 5V USB adapter . It didn't work. Sayal sells a USB 5V 1A power supply works with the Raspberry Pi $6.99 . It worked.

I found a Motorola cellphone charger at Amazon for $4.50 with shipping included for free (not a Super Saver Item, it was just free shipping), rated at 850 mA. This is the one listed on the Verified Peripherals page, I think item number is SPN5504.

I do not know if Canada would be same free shipping but may be.

Product name was "Home and Travel Charger."

I use this. $12 from Loblaws, in the lightbulb section. Works a treat. Not sure if it can power two Raspberry Pis at once, but is very handy.

These were ordered from Newark / Element 14 Canada and both work well:
