Commuting

Thu May 15, 2014 3:53 pm

What is this life, if full of love,
we had no need to push and shove?
No need to push to board the train,
with so small a space to gain.

No need to moan when tubes we ride,
And in our cramped conditions bide.

No need to listen to the tinny noise,
coming from those high tech toys.

No need to swear at stops we've missed,
trapped within the roiling midst.

No need to feel it such a win,
To disembark that outsized tin.

A rich life this if full of love,
We had no need to push and shove.

Really nice!

Tried commuting a few times, swore never to work within 10 miles of London.
I wonder how my (present) avatar would cope - or the other commuters come to that - if he could get a season ticket.

That's what computer scientists mean by "Compression"...

Nice poem!

Actually the thing that rattles me is trying to get OFF the train and being stopped by the throng of brainless cattle waiting to get on... who can't get on until we get off... but that's intelligence for you...

I wrote it awhile back, obviously it's based on leisure by William Henry Davies.

I got on a 4 carriage rush hour train yesterday, which made me dig it out again.
