Desktop Menu sizes

Tue May 13, 2014 2:56 am

I have a little issue dealing with the sizes of the menus on the desktop. I am using a 7inch display with a forced size of 335x235 which allows me to see all the scripts upon boot (nothing is cut off the screen), but when i use startx and get to the desktop the issues are 1. The icons are huge 2. If i select say the WiFi menu it's cut off on the bottom so much i can't see the other choices available. Is there a way to shrink these option menus so they fit my small screen? I have figured out the whole overscan thing and have the terminal screen so none is missing and no black borders. If a picture is needed to understand what I'm meaning LMK and I'll try to post one. Thanks, Jeremy

That is just the way it is using composite (RCA). Composite has a fixed resolution which is less than the VGA resolutions that many applications expect. This makes many programs unusable on the RPi in composite mode.
If your screen supports PAL then you might try that as PAL has a little bit better resolution than NTSC. Many of the more recent small LCD screens support both but the RPi defaults to NTSC.
Unless specified otherwise my response is based on the latest and fully updated RPiOS Buster w/ Desktop OS.
