I took apart a screen from an old car DVD player and want to connect it to my pi because I hate using it with my 50" tv and need it over near my work area

sorry to bring bad news, but without a complete HDMI/DVI-D input LCD controller you are extremely unlikely to interface a random LCD panel.
maybe in the future thing will be different, with a the DSI interface (DSI = second flex-cable connector similar to the camera board one) board released.
