Rpi dead?

Wed May 07, 2014 9:58 pm

Hi all!

I have an Rpi purchased in April '13. Worked great as a Raspbmc machine until I went to reboot it about ten days ago. Didn't come back up. On application of power, the red power light comes on, the green activity light comes up briefly and then goes out. (I understand this indicates some CPU/GPU activity.) That's it, though -- nothing at all happens after that. Tried both HDMI and composite video outputs, different power supplies (Samsung and Apple -- the latter purchased at an Apple Store so it's unlikely to be counterfeit) to no avail. Only USB device is a Streamzap remote control. SD card came from the official approved card list. Tried waiting with the power off for a few days to give the polyfuses a rest and unplugging everything but the power, but symptoms are the same.

I have performed the troubleshooting steps located in the sticky.

Ordered a replacement RPi, plugged in everything that was plugged in to its dead predecessor and it came up just fine, worked great.

In the event warranty replacement is required, do I have any alternative to going back to the seller? I purchased it through a third party on Amazon and they're not answering my emails.

Thanks,

Steve

I'd report the issue to Amazon.

Thanks for your reply. I have. Parenthetically, I stated that it was my understanding that the Raspberry Pi Foundation requires customers to go back to the seller for warranty claims. They asked me to provide some documentation of that, and I've been unable to find any official statements on the subject to which I can point them.

What country are you in? Because most countries in Europe have the same rules as the UK. The reseller is the manufacturer's agent, they are the first point of contact for any warranty claim when equipment is faulty.

If you've bought by mail-order then the distance selling laws will be effective.

If you've bought with a credit card, contact your credit card company.

I'm in the United States.

Yeah at least in the US, IIUC credit card companies won't touch a year old transaction, ignoring those cards which offer extended warranties (mine didn't).

Here's what Farnell.com have to say: http://www.farnell.com/datasheets/1627216.pdf

If you got it from from some other reseller you'll need to contact their customer support desk.
