RPi don't boot when HDMI is connected

Tue Apr 08, 2014 7:24 am

I have a problem - if nothing is connected (no HDMI, no composite, no audio, no ethernet, power only), LED blinks like booting is in process. BUT if I connect HDMI cable, LED stops blinking - red one is lighting only. It was working some days before, but suddenly it stops.

The same power supply with the same SD card works with another piece of RPi. I tried another more powerfull power supply already (2A), but the same result ...
Is my RPi defective? Can I test it somehow else?

What is your HDMI cable connected to?
Which O.S. are you using? Did you use NOOBS to install it?
To confirm your "PSU swap test" can you measure the voltage between testpoints TP1 & TP2 (as marked on the pcb) with and without the cable present. Also try a different cable if you can and/or without anything on "the other end".
Trev.
Still running Raspbian Jessie or Stretch on some older Pi's (an A, B1, 2xB2, B+, P2B, 3xP0, P0W, 2xP3A+, P3B+, P3B, B+, and a A+) but Buster on the P4B's. See: https://www.cpmspectrepi.uk/raspberry_pi/raspiidx.htm

As I said already - the same HDMI cable with the same SD card and the same power supply works with another RPi (and the same Panasonic plasma TV). It worked before too, but suddenly it doesn't. Tested with another HDMI cable with the same result.

OS - raspbmc (the same result with Raspbian, NOOBS not tested)
I will try to measure voltage between TP1 and TP2 when I am at home.

Enable the safe mode in the configuration settings, I haven't had this issue but had something remotely like it. Safe mode fixed it for me.
