Replace ATX PSU with 33w Switched Mode PSU

Mon Mar 24, 2014 3:00 pm

I am successfully powering a raspberry pi, powered hub and 3 12v hard drives from a 1U ATX PSU. Everything works great but the noise from the fan is starting to get to me. Obviously these power supplies were designed to be used in a server room environment so acoustically they are not the quietest of things.

In a quest to quieten things down I have been looking at http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/161215194528

This power supply outputs 12v at 1A and 5v at 3A, can anyone see any issues with using this in place of the ATX PSU?

I wouldn't like to guarantee that it's beefy enough to supply the start-up current for three hard drives, not if they're 3 1/2" anyway.
Pi2B Mini-PC/Media Centre: ARM=1GHz (+3), Core=500MHz, v3d=500MHz, h264=333MHz, RAM=DDR2-1200 (+6/+4/+4+schmoo). Sandisk Ultra HC-I 32GB microSD card on '50=100' OCed slot (42MB/s read) running Raspbian/KODI16, Seagate 3.5" 1.5TB HDD mass storage.
