Problem with SD Card

Sat Mar 22, 2014 11:42 am

Hi friends,

I have a Model B raspberry pi, until yesterday I was using a Lexar 4 GB SDHC Card with Raspbian installed via NOOBS and I suppose that the card got corrupted and I had to do an of install Raspbian again but the pi refuses to boot up with the card with NOOBS zip contents in it. I had also created a .img backup of the card using Win32DiskImager and it didn't boot even with that.
I can confirm that the pi doesn't boot because the light on my wireless keyboard receiver doesn't light up. Also I cannot see any green light.

Hoping for Help

Did you format the SD card before trying again with the recommended SD card formatter as described on the official NOOBS download page?

http://www.raspberrypi.org/downloads
Pi2B Mini-PC/Media Centre: ARM=1GHz (+3), Core=500MHz, v3d=500MHz, h264=333MHz, RAM=DDR2-1200 (+6/+4/+4+schmoo). Sandisk Ultra HC-I 32GB microSD card on '50=100' OCed slot (42MB/s read) running Raspbian/KODI16, Seagate 3.5" 1.5TB HDD mass storage.

Full (Overwrite) Format + Format Size Adjustment On may be better**

I have a similar problem. After two years with no sd-card corruption I got a Sony 4Gb card. This worked well for a month, then got corrupted. Except that it is not always corrupt - on ubuntu it will FSCK clean, and it continues to boot on my model A, but my model Bs cannot load (any) start.elf

Must be a power supply problem...

Hi,

Not sure if this is related to your problem or not but on the downloads page it does state that you now need an 8GB (or larger) SD card for a NOOBS installation.

Sorry bro, but the quick start pdf shows that we need a 4 Gb or larger card.

I will try to use a different power adapter.

Both of you are "correct" - the info. on the downloads page (but probably not in the quick start guide) was changed because if you use NOOBS full to install Raspbian** it may not fit on some 4Gb cards, giving rise to problems for some users. Most, if not all, of the other O.S.'s will fit on a 4Gb card and it should be possible to install Raspbian on a 4Gb card with NOOBS lite which downloads Raspbian only (NOOBS full includes compressed images of several O.S.'s).
Trev.
** Which has "grown" somewhat since the main NOOBS docs. were written.

... cunning plan #1: replace the regulator on my first Model B, Dave Akerman style. Result: so far so good - card now boots on the Pi with new regulator, still fails on my other Model B.
