Swap space for main drive.after boot from SD?

Thu Mar 13, 2014 10:09 pm

Is there a way to use the swap drive as the main drive, after initial boot? My SD only transfers at 20 MB/s. My swap space is an SSD in a USB 3.0 case. It should be able to utilize USB 2.0's full bandwidth of 48 MB/s.

Any Ideas?

I doubt you'll get anywhere near 48MB/s in reality. My OSes run from an external USB hard drive that's capable of over 100MB/s sequential, but it tops out at around 25MB/s for non-cached reads and writes via the USB port on my Pi.

The table below shows a comparison between the performance of a Lexar 32GB Class 10 SDHC card and a Seagate Barracuda LP 1.5TB HDD running vanilla Raspbian Wheezy (2014-01-07)...

All figures in MB/s and taken from Roy Longbottom's 'DriveSpeed RasPi 1.1'.

You should gain significantly when it comes to small random reads/writes though with yours being an SSD.

Since it hasn't previously been mentioned in this thread, I don't know!

Why did you download it? What did you expect to be able to do with it?

If you have a PC running Windows then there's a much easier way that doesn't involve gparted or the command line.

What the hell was that???

Please post it here in text, if you can…

As you seem to have a problem with it, link removed. Feel free to remove it from your quote also.
