RaspBMC Noobs Rasbian files

Wed Mar 12, 2014 7:35 am

Can anyone explain in simple terms what the follwing files do and does the pi have to have them to work
RaspBMC Noobs Rasbian
I did download Rasbian img file and then the noobs file and things seemed ok, i have been struggling to get my pi working with my samsung android phone and was told to install the img file RaspBMC, but since i installed RaspBMC i appear to have lost all files in home/pi and can't get to my desktop on the pi, is this because of the new img file or is it something else i could have done?
Is it the case that i can't install both the img files RaspBMC and Rasbian together?

1/ NOOBS is an operating system installer and launcher.

2/ Raspbian is a desktop operating system (if used in desktop mode).

3/ RaspBMC is a dedicated media centre.

If you want access to both 2 & 3, you have to install them both via 1. You can then choose which to run via an on-screen menu when you reboot the Pi.

You're welcome. Hang in there. It's all quite simple once the penny drops. :)
