Power adapter

Tue Mar 11, 2014 7:46 pm

Hi all,

Is it ok to use the Pi with adapter of 5v and 2A ? I have read somewhere that its ok but i cant be sure i cant find the page ... and from the this page FAQs i see that it is saying:

"The device is powered by 5v micro USB. Exactly how much current (mA) the Raspberry Pi requires is dependent on what you hook up to it. We have found that purchasing a 1.2A (1200mA) power supply from a reputable retailer will provide you with ample power to run your Raspberry Pi.

Typically, the model B uses between 700-1000mA depending on what peripherals are connected, and the model A can use as little as 500mA with no peripherals attached. The maximum power the Raspberry Pi can use is 1 Amp."

So i would like to ask here :)

Should be O.K. - the Pi will only draw the current it needs. I use this 4-port 5V 2100mA PSU to power both a Pi and hub for example:

Still running Raspbian Jessie or Stretch on some older Pi's (an A, B1, 2xB2, B+, P2B, 3xP0, P0W, 2xP3A+, P3B+, P3B, B+, and a A+) but Buster on the P4B's. See: https://www.cpmspectrepi.uk/raspberry_pi/raspiidx.htm

That's incorrectly worded as power isn't measured in Amps, and it will only consume what it needs. The last sentence should read...

"The maximum current the Raspberry Pi will draw is around 1 Amp."
Pi2B Mini-PC/Media Centre: ARM=1GHz (+3), Core=500MHz, v3d=500MHz, h264=333MHz, RAM=DDR2-1200 (+6/+4/+4+schmoo). Sandisk Ultra HC-I 32GB microSD card on '50=100' OCed slot (42MB/s read) running Raspbian/KODI16, Seagate 3.5" 1.5TB HDD mass storage.
